House Hunt Baby Watch Bacteria Fight 2013

These last few weeks have been CRAZY!  It feels as though we’ve been riding a whirlwind of news, both good and… not-so-good.

Let’s start off with some good news eh?  We’re currently scheduled to close on the sale of our home August 28th.  After a few offers where the financing didn’t pan out, it looks like this one might go ALL…THE…WAAAY!  We’re very happy…and sad.  We love our home and will miss it fiercely.  But life is all about change and we are looking forward to what the future holds for us.

OK, on to some not-so-good news.  Adalyn has grown Pseudomonas…  For people in the CF community this is a tough pill to swallow.  It’s a bacteria that thrives in moist, warm conditions…like the lungs.  Individuals without CF usually have no problem fighting off the bacteria.  However CF patients, with unusually sticky mucus build up in their lungs, gives the bacteria an environment to thrive in.  While infected, the lungs become inflamed causing severe coughing, exacerbation, and other breathing problems.   Adalyn’s breathing treatments have now been supplemented with an oral and an inhaled antibiotic.  We’ll be on the medicine for 4 weeks then she will get tested (throat swab) to see if the bacteria has been eliminated.  Please keep Adalyn in your thoughts and prayers.

With that, lets end on some good news.  Baby “A” is thriving.  His measurements, heart, brain activity, and blood flow all appear to be normal and he’s constantly moving.  The doctor said he’s measuring about 4-5 days ahead of schedule.  Thanks to all of you who have been thinking about and praying for our little boy.  Your words of sympathy and encouragement have helped us heal during this tough time in our lives.

Before we go, tonight was the first night in a while that I’ve had time to wrangle up Adalyn and take a few pictures of our little princess.  From all the smiles and rambunctiousness you’d never guess she was under the weather.

We’re PREGNANT!!!!!

Well, The Crew just got a little bigger.  Ok a LOT bigger!  We invited our families over for lunch and surprised them with the news before digging into dessert.  Some had a hunch we were going to announce something since this is pretty much the same scenario as when we announced Kayla being pregnant with Adalyn.  You can see that video here.  But, no one could have guessed that we are having TWINS!  The look on everyone’s faces in the video below are priceless.  We had such a blast having our family over for lunch and sharing this experience with them.  This is going to be a very exciting next few months and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.  Thanks goes out to our loving and supporting family.  We love you all and appreciate everything you do for us.

Weight Watchers

Last Wednesday, Squirt weighed in at 6 lbs 6 oz.  At Adalyn’s first appointment with her pediatrician, Dr. C wanted Adalyn to gain at least 3 oz. before her next visit in one week.  I’m happy to announce that Addy has blown past the 3 oz mark and currently weighs in at a healthy 7 lbs thus surpassing her birth weight!  We’re so proud of her.  Cystic Fibrosis patients typically have a difficult time gaining weight so we’re super thankful that she is doing so good.

Bath Time

We’ve hit a couple of milestones that have made parenthood more enjoyable.  Since getting home, it seemed like the only way we could get Adalyn to stop crying is to put her on the breast (Kayla’s, mine didn’t seem to work).  Even if she had eaten just 10 minutes before.  But, I’m proud to say Addy is now self soothing with a pacifier!  Kayla’s chest thanks her immensely for that.  Oh, and the little squirt is now sleeping in something other than our arms!  As much as we love holding our little bundle of joy, the moment we sat her down on the couch, the pack and play, crib, our lap, or anywhere she would immediately wake up and refuse to sleep until we cradled her in our arms again.   But, we’ve seem to have found a nice little bed with high sides (like arms wrapped around her) that she’s taken a liking to.  Today, Adalyn had her first appointment at Children’s Healthcare.  She was an absolute angel the whole time.  Although, the nurses didn’t seem to think it was funny that she christened the digital scale they put her on.  🙂   That’s our girl!  Anyway, we’re really enjoying the quality time we’ve been given with Addy.  I’ve taken mucho pictures already and have started an album I plan on printing at the end of the year.  Super excited about that.  Here are a few pics from Addy’s first bath.  You have no idea how many embarrassing pictures of Adalyn I now have to go in the private family photo album.

We Love Country Music

Well, we finally made it.  Baby and mom are safely in the comfort of our own home.  We will truly miss the wonderful staff at Northside Hospital who spoiled us with their knowledge and attention.  I tried very hard to get the cell phone numbers of much of the staff but for some reason they refused.  The car ride home was truly traumatic for all of us.  I don’t know what we were thinking when we decided to leave during rush hour traffic.  On another note, I am now  a country music fan as it seems Adalyn calmed down only when we turned on the radio which was on Kicks 101.5.  We’re now trying to get our schedule down at home but I managed to snap a few images of the little lady.  Hopefully once everything has calmed down I will be able to get the images for the birth announcement.  Stay tuned!

Operation Baby Arrival

I wanted to get in one last blog entry before the little lady arrives.  Last Saturday we had a blast at the Spence Crew baby shower.  I want to send out a big thank you to my Aunts Beverly, Brenda, and Pattie for putting it all together.  I think we officially have everything we need for the big day.  Last night, in an attempt to coax the baby out on her own, we visited Scalini’s to participate in their Eggplant Parmigiana Babies tradition.  Birth is supposed to happen within 48 hours after eating their famous dish.  Guess we’ll see!  She’s coming one way or another.  🙂   We’re currently running around grabbing all the things we can think of for tonight.  We should receive a call between 6PM and Midnight letting us know our room is ready at the Baby Factory.  Once there, Kayla will receive some medicine that will do it’s job overnight preparing her cervix for delivery.  Then, in the morning she’ll get a shot of Pitocin to jump start the contractions.  Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.  If all goes according to plan we should have a beautiful and healthy baby girl Friday afternoon.  We’ll keep everyone posted!  Here’s Kayla chowing down on that eggplant:
